Lisa Stanford, LCSW-C, DBT-C

Owner and Founder of Worth Above Rubies Christian Counseling

Hello!

Hi, I’m Lisa! I’m so glad you’re here. I come from a diverse background, having worked in a variety of practices, hospitals, and organizations, but my ultimate mission has always been to create my own space. I’ve always wanted a place where women can feel worthy, valued, and unashamed, and I hope Worth Above Rubies provides that for you. Being able to offer therapy services, the Word of God, and supervision to fellow clinicians is truly a dream come true, and I am honored to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing and growth.

My Style:

“Therapy is like a good pair of shoes; it has to fit!”

I create a safe, inviting space for clients to share openly and authentically. With experience working primarily with women on a variety of issues, I support clients as they take the courageous first step toward a more fulfilling life.

Together, we use approaches that align with your strengths and goals, making therapy individualized and unique. I view the therapeutic process as a journey of patience, vulnerability, and growth, and I partner with clients as they learn, heal, and move toward a life they truly value.

My Specialty:

I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience (Maryland, D.C., Virginia), trained in Perinatal Mental Health and certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I am also a Maryland Board-Approved Supervisor. I support women navigating postpartum depression, anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, grief, self-esteem, and Christian counseling.

My passion for working with mothers comes from my own pregnancy loss, and I’ve found healing through supporting women in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units. I view clients as people—not diagnoses—and use DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and a holistic approach to guide growth, healing, and hope.

Why did you become a mental health professional?

I became a mental health therapist somewhat by chance. After working in the medical field, I decided to try something different and discovered a surprising passion for therapy. Having been a client myself, I understand the growth and healing it can bring. Now, I find meaning and purpose in helping others navigate their paths, giving back to my community so we can grow together.

What are your interests outside of work?

In my free time, I enjoy time with God, ministry, reading, solo dates, traveling, ballet, fitness, and spending quality time with friends and family!
